Imagine on your first day of work having to save a life. Hobart Indiana Police Officer Richard Mayer was eating at Chick-Fil-A with some fellow officers when Melanie Hasse ran over to them saying her daughter was choking. Richard jumped into action grabbing the toddler, flipping her over and began back slaps. That did the trick. The piece of apple came out, and the little girl was breathing again. So it turns out Officer Richard’s first act as paid police officer was saving a little girl’s life.
